David Cook wins American Idol 5/21/08

Cook beats Archuleta by 12 million votes.

Did we see that coming? Even though the night before the judges tried to sway the audience into voting for Archie. Bad, bad judges. But at least Simon apologized to Cook before the winner was announced. Maybe he knew the results before hand and was trying to save face?

So what did you think of the show?

Can anyone say “Blast from the Past”? Does anyone even know who Donna Summers is (err was)? Seeing her being ‘helped’ down the stairs was a bit depressing. And Bryan Adams looks so old. Nothing like making us ‘old timers’ feel much older by putting them up there.

I have to admit I enjoyed Cook singing with ZZ Top. He seemed to fit right in with his raspy voice. And ZZ Top is from ‘my time’, so I could get into it. “Sharp Dressed Man” brought back some good memories. So that was the best part of the show for me.

The worst part (for me) was having to watch Jason Castro sing again. Funny, he sang by himself (they couldn’t find anyone to match up with him like they did with everyone else?) and I couldn’t find the link on YouTube. I guess I wasn’t the only one who didn’t care to see him again.

So David Cook is the New American Idol. I wonder how many people are happy with the outcome, and how many of you are disappointed. I liked both of the David’s, but I am glad Cook won. It could have gone either way for me and I would have been happy.

If you missed it, or would like to see it again, here are some links from YouTube. I think I got them all (except Jason’s).

Enjoy…and hopefully we will see you next year. (The song names link to videos.)

American Idol - 4/23/08 Elimination

[ Edit: Carly Smithson was eliminated ]

Andrew Lloyd Webber was the mentor for American Idol’s remaining top 6 this week.

The two people that seemed to be out of their element tonight were Brooke and Jason. Simon said Brooke seemed to be straining while she sang (which is exactly what I was thinking) and she messed up in the beginning, forgetting the lyrics (which made her look worse at the end). So (again), she had to stop and start her song over. Jason was boring, boring, boring. He_has_no_oomph. Simon’s response: It was the longest two minutes of his life (Girls, you really need to get past the “oh he’s so cute!” phase and see him for where he is at this stage of the competition. Compared to the other 5 (well 4, if we exclude Brooke) he_sucks.)

And for you Jason lovers (gags) this is for you.

Carly rocked. She put on a really good show. She was having fun, really getting into it. I really really hope she doesn’t get booted off before Brooke and Jason. I have that strange feeling though that people just can not get passed her appearance/tattoo, and_that_sucks for her.

Syesha’s performance was sexay, but yet…I couldn’t help noticing a few pitchy points at times. (damn Randy haha) She put on a good show though, like Carly did. I was ‘entertained’ and enjoyed it.

David A. is so funny. The kid sings so good, seems perfectly comfortable when he’s up there on stage singing. But once he stops and stands in front of the judges he loses it. Suddenly there is this dorky acting, shy kid standing there. haha It’s_cute. But that’s not point, is it. He sings damn good, especially for someone so young (17). And of course he did great tonight (was there any doubt?). I don’t think anyone has to worry about him getting the boot tonight.

I was a little worried for David Cook. He wasn’t exactly in his element tonight now was he. BUT, as usual, he pulled it off (even though Simon wasn’t too excited about his performance).

Okay so who will get the boot this week? I’m hoping for Brooke or Jason…leaning more towards Brooke though. To me she has now replaced the annoying Kristy. She’s going to hang around just to annoy the shit out of me.

American Idol - 4/2/08 Elimination

Hmmm now it gets harder to figure out who gets to stay and who gets to go on idol. I still think there is a larger amount of people that deserve to go than people that deserve to stay.

Among the people doing good, David Archuleta is still pretty high up there, I think he’s still the best one going. Carly is so-so, not bad or good. Guess it depends on the night for her.

My picks for the bottom three will be Kristy Lee Cook, Brooke White and Ramiele Malubay.

For the bottom two, I’m gonna guess Cook and White; and finally I’m predicting Cook to get eliminated. She’s hung on long enough, she isn’t that great. Honestly her performances are downright boring and amateur at best.

I’m still not impressed with the majority of the singers though. Personally I think Castro should be in the bottom three and get eliminated, but he makes too many teen girls squeal just because he has that stupid rag hair and baby eyes.

Amercian Idol 3/26/08

Well Tuesday night was interesting. The people who didn’t do very well last week did exceptionally well last night. Like Michael Johns, who I thought was going to be in last weeks bottom three, did an amazing job. Kristy Lee Cook suddenly doesn’t seem so annoying anymore. Syesha Mercado reminded me of Whitney Houston.

Week by week my view of the remaining contestants seems to change. It all depends on Tuesday night’s performance. So who will go tonight?

It’s getting harder and harder to guess, but we know someone has to go. And after watching this past nights performances the ones who seemed to do the worst were: Ramiel Malubay, who seems to have lost her voice somewhere. Jason Castro, who I think is only getting by now on his looks. Chikezie, who does sing very well, but last night he came across as a bit boring. Brooke White…I’m a bit iffy on her this week. I’m really not sure where she stands now. And Carly Smithson seems to have faded and lost her confidence. Her performance wasn’t as strong as it was last week.

And who was the best this week? David Cook, of course, with David Archuleta close at his heels. If they keep this up I can see them both vying for the title of American Idol.

So who do I think will be in the bottom 3 tonight? Ramiele Malubay, Jason Castro and Chikezie.

Who will get the boot? I would have to guess Ramiele Mulubay.
