American Idol - 5/14/08 Elimination

Well the top three sang tonight, it’s going to be weird doing the reviews because I don’t have anything negative to say about the remaining people. Now that everyone I didn’t like is gone I’m at a loss for harsh words. So before I critique, here is a recap of what they all sang.
- David Archuleta: “And So It Goes”, “With You” and “Longer”
- Syesha Mercado: “If I Ain’t Got You”, “Fever” and “Hit Me Up”
- David Cook: “First Time I Ever Saw Your Face”, “Dare You to Move” and “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing”
David Archuleta had a strong showing again tonight. I think all three of his performances were top quality yet again. I don’t understand why the judges didn’t like him singing that pop-style song genre though. He did it well and is flexible with what he can sing. He isn’t restricted to just ballads.
Archuleta is also coming along well with the whole shyness thing. He was really getting into the first song and worked the audience into it. So that brings me back to not understanding why the judges complained about it.
Syesha Mercado got a lot of unnecessary heat tonight from the judges. I dunno why Randy was constantly saying it wasn’t right for her. The song choices seemed to fit her vocals perfectly and she really got me into each song. So it was just weird to see some of the judges complaining. She has that foxy woman thing going for her that works well for songs such as “Fever.”
David Cook had the best song of the night with his last one, “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing.” That was the highlight of the night for me. The other two songs were also strong performances as usual. I only wish he got some slightly more rock styled songs, he really comes to life with those.
The judges were really confusing me though, especially Randy. He just seemed to have nothing good to say at all. I found myself (strangely) agreeing with Paula a lot instead of Simon this time.
This is a tough one to call though, but I’m leaning towards Syesha being the one that goes home. The “Fever” song just seemed a bit out there, and not very in tune with the theme of Idol. The “working the chair” bit seemed a bit risky to do, maybe if the audience was a bunch of men it could of worked better. So in light of that, and all the criticism she got from the judges (them being able to influence votes), I think she’s going to be the one leaving.

Personally I thought she did really good. I don’t know what’s up with Randy.
Paula seems ‘better’ lately. The last few times she hasn’t seemed uh…out of it? No stuttering or anything. I guess she changed her meds (eep).
I do think Syesha will go, but only because of the voting I saw the last few times, and her count always being ‘down there’. Cook seems to always have the most, with Archuleta right behind him. It’s going to be an interesting night tomorrow though. I can’t wait.

Yeah, the chair thing just didn’t seem appropriate for the audience; Idol seems like a family kinda thing to me with lots of young teens being the most interested in the show. So it just seemed like a very risky move to me. I thought she did great, it just didn’t seem to fit.
Randy was really annoying me, and Paula seemed normal… I think they switched medications or something. lol
The fact that Syesha is constantly in the bottom doesn’t help either though.

I’d like to see Archuleta win, he’d get a lot of experience and help that way. I’ll be happy if either David wins though. I don’t want Syesha to win, too many girls keep winning it seems. lol

i think Syesha is going home tonight. i also agree on the chair thing. even my husband said that was a stupid move.. i hope cook wins! he always seems to sing the best. i think Archuleta has alot of “growing” to do since hes only 17.

The chair thing probably will be what does her in if she goes home tonight. Won’t surprise me really.
I’d still rather see Archuleta win though, because I can see Cook easily being picked up by a record company for his good rock performances. So neither of the Davids can really ‘lose’ at this point.

I am too. *L* I can’t wait until next week. It can’t come fast enough. But the problem is…I don’t want it to be over. It seemed to go by SO fast.
